If you’ve been following me for awhile you would know that this isn’t the first time I’m writing about Starbucks. But hey if you are, no worries, Click here to read all about it! Between then and now, Starbucks and added in many new stuff on their food section, so they are no longer just about burgers and pastries. Hurray! This brings us back to the question:

YES! Definitely YES!

Gone are the days when you’ll only see these and wonder hard to yourself: WHAT CAN I EAT? WHAT CAN I EAT?!?!?!?! If you were to head to Starbuck’s website now, you’ll see this:

Starbucks has entered the grain bowl bandwagon! This means that if you’re someone who heavily rely on Starbucks for meetings, you no longer have to worry about not being able to find healthier choices anymore! I mean yes, the previously recommended Egg white wrap is good, but you and I know that more varieties = more choices right?

Without further ado, let me introduce you to the newest addition to Starbucks!

Contestant Number ONE: Roast Chicken & Soba Bowl with Sesame Dressing

For our friendly noodle fans, this soba noodle combination allows you to enjoy a good mix of vegetables, noodles and some proteins! If you ask me, this was good looking, but felt too normal.

Contestant Number TWO: Roast Chicken & Quinoa bowl with Lemon Dressing

This grain bowl was made with quinoa, roast chicken, carrot, zucchini, raisin, corn and sundried tomato tossed with a tantalizing lemon dressing. I like how this bowl had a wholesome amount of colors, but what really caught my attention was the lemon dressing – yum!

Contestant Number THREE: Cajun Prawns & Barley Bowl with Cajun Dressing

This grain bowl was made with cajun prawns, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potato, cherry tomatoes and barley topped with a tangy Cajun dressing. What caught my attention really was the prawns. Don’t know about you, but chicken is a staple everywhere, and prawns were in my opinion more tasty compared to chicken. Then again, I’m a fan of Har Gow so what can I say? =p Apart from that, the main carb in this bowl is BARLEY, an option not often used in mainstream carbs except for dessert bowls.

So what’s a food review if you don’t do a taste test right?

As you could guess from my captions above, I had a go with Cajun Prawns and while the other two looks just as appetizing, I did not regret my choice.

Can we just take a moment of our time to appreciate the beauty of the packaging please? I love that the packaging was like that, but what made me like it even more was it’s functionality.

The sauce was packaged outside of the ingredients to keep ingredients fresh. So even if the sauce were to leak, it wouldn’t leak into the ingredients, causing you to eat calories you could have avoided (by being more careful when you’re transporting your bowl!)

At first glance, the ingredients are relatively plain aside from the prawns – they looked like steam vegetables that were added into a bowl, because they are. Haha! But for our health conscious friends, this is super useful because we can now control the amount of dressing we want on our food. Goodbye unnecessary calories!

In terms of ingredients, the barley and vegetables taste like steamed or boiled vegetables with no extra seasoning. For me, the cajun dressing was a little heavier towards the oily side, so I only used half of the dressing sauce. However, the prawns were amazing. It was like love at first bite, and if you’re a fan of prawns you’ll know what I mean. So that naturally became the highlight of my meal!

If grain bowl is not your thing, Starbucks has other healthy options available too! As written in this post earlier, I’ve highlighted some of them in the post over here.
